10 Trivia About Lovers and Fools (the song)

Here are 10 behind-the-music trivia about my recently released song Lovers and Fools.

  1. The electric guitars are from the original demo...I just didn't feel like re-recording them to make them perfect, which is why they're a tad out of sync with the opening drums.
  2. There's a lot of intentional flipping in the song, low-high melodies flipping to high-low, "what side are you on," lovers/Fools, etc.
  3. Kelly joins Alyssa in singing the last big round of harmonies
  4. I recorded the vocals on the same mic that Kurt Cobain once sang in, and almost all in the same take--there are some parts I wanted to redo vocally, but I just had to keep it
  5. The inspiration for the first verse was actually imagining the feeling of watching one of my girls fall in love with the wrong guy, (which is quite literally why I call the person "girl"), but then the song direction shifted and in the end the song ended up being about wanting someone to love you who maybe doesn't
  6. No, that's not autobiographical, but who hasn't felt it before?
  7. The drum style of the first verse was all Sage--he had a vision for that half time feel and I thought it was cool
  8. When I finished writing this song I thought it wasn't that good and was surprised to get a positive reaction, which is why I ended up recording it
  9. Since Cathedral was about love songs, I named the follow up EP after this song to mark a transition to the next idea
  10. The bright font of the word "fool" on the cover with me walking away is also marking the transition to the next musical phase. OK, that's it. I'll do a post like this for the other songs at some point.]
